Pratt & Whitney officials, state and local leaders, and community members gathered for plaque-unveiling ceremony.

Hartford, CT, July 25, 2025 -  Pratt & Whitney Measurement Systems, Inc. joined members of Congress as well as state and community leaders for a building dedication ceremony and plaque unveiling, commemorating Pratt & Whitney’s original location in Hartford Connecticut.

In 1860, Francis A. Pratt and Amos Whitney founded a tool company bearing their namesake and set out to standardize the industry with their high-precision instrumentation and machines.  In 1925, Frederick Rentschler approached the Pratt & Whitney Co. for funding and space to build a new aircraft engine.  The Pratt & Whitney Co. loaned him $250,000, the use of the Pratt & Whitney name and floor-space in the building at 450 Capital Avenue, Pratt & Whitney’s original location.

U.S. Congressman John Larson, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, and state and local leaders, including State House Speaker Matt Ritter and Mayor Connor Martin, participated in the event.  The plaque serves as a tribute to the company's long history in Connecticut.
